Police organizations operate in highly demanding environments characterized by operational risk, time pressure, and complex public responsibilities. Police officers are required to maintain high levels of vigilance, responsiveness, and professionalism while dealing with unpredictable situations that may arise at any time. These working conditions frequently challenge officers’ ability to maintain a healthy balance between their professional duties and personal lives.
Maintaining work-life balance is particularly challenging in policing due to long working hours, shift work, and exposure to critical incidents. Failure to manage this balance may result in negative outcomes such as stress, burnout, and decreased job performance. Therefore, identifying organizational factors that can support work-life balance among police officers is essential.
This study aims to examine the influence of collaborative culture on work-life balance, with knowledge management capability as a mediating variable among police officers. A quantitative research approach was employed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to police officers and analyzed to test both direct and indirect relationships among the study variables.
The measurement model was evaluated through validity and reliability testing, while the structural model was assessed using path coefficients, coefficient of determination, and mediation analysis. The findings indicate that collaborative culture has a significant positive effect on knowledge management capability and work-life balance. Knowledge management capability also exerts a significant influence on work-life balance and partially mediates the relationship between collaborative culture and work-life balance.
These results suggest that organizational environments characterized by collaboration and effective knowledge management can reduce work-related stress and enhance officers’ well-being. This study contributes to the literature on public sector management by integrating organizational culture, knowledge management, and work-life balance within the policing context. Practically, the findings provide insights for police institutions to design organizational strategies that foster collaboration and systematic knowledge sharing to improve officers’ quality of working life.
